"Prometheus Repentance - Rauchzeichen" begins with earthworks, the digging of holes.

With a fearsome striving for freedom and innovation, modern man burns up the pyroenergetic-fossil excavation: today our society is "... a collective of arsonists who set fire to the underground forests and moors." (Peter Sloterdijk: The Remorse of Prometheus, p. 23)

The clouds and mists of the combustion machinery rise from the chimney as smoke signals of the extraction process. Above the Promethean fireplaces, clouds of smoke, visible from afar, gather and grow ever thicker.

The earth is burning. "Fire fighters of all countries, contain the fires." (Sloterdijk: ibid., p.79)
